Econyl Yarn
ECONYL is Aquafil’s regenerated Nylon 6 made from waste like discarded fishing nets, old carpets, and industrial nylon, offering virgin‑quality performance with reduced reliance on fossil inputs.
What it is
Econyl is Aquafil’s regenerated Nylon 6, chemically identical to standard nylon but produced from waste streams, aiming to shrink landfill and ocean-bound plastic while meeting performance needs in apparel and interiors.
How it’s made
Collected nylon waste is cleaned and depolymerized back to its monomer, then repolymerized and spun into yarn; Aquafil keeps exact process details proprietary but positions the loop as regeneration and purification of waste nylon into virgin‑quality fiber.
Key properties
- Strong, smooth yarn that becomes stretchy when knitted or woven, with medium moisture management and low heat retention, similar to conventional nylon 6.
- Best cared for with cold washes; high heat can melt or deform fibers like standard nylon.
Common uses
- Swimwear, leggings, tights, yoga and sportswear where fit, recovery, and durability matter.
- Carpets, rugs, and industrial ropes/lines leveraging abrasion resistance and dyeability.
Certifications
Econyl-based products have been recognized with third‑party credentials, including OEKO‑TEX Standard 100 and Cradle to Cradle Gold in certain carpet applications, underscoring safety and circularity efforts in defined use cases.
